Since there was not anyplace to get breakfast in Gackle, I fired up the jetboil and had oatmeal and coffee in my WS room. I left Gackle at 08:00 intending to stop for a snack and later lunch at one of the little towns along the way. Unfortunately, the towns were either 4-5 miles off my route or the cafe/gas station was closed for good. So, no snacks or water refills for 75 miles…The road started off hilly with nice scenery and I saw several deer running through cornfields and a few pheasants and grouse. There was no wind but it clear, sunny and warm. Then, about 40 miles east of Gackle, the road became extremely straight and flat with soybeans the dominant landscape feature- not so stimulating… And it was hot now! I think the more scenic part of North Dakota is behind me. I did cross two nice rivers- the James and the Sheyenne- which makes about three I’ve crossed in North Dakota. I rolled into Enderlin about 12:30 and immediately hit a local grill for lunch and rehydration. Daily mileage: 75, trip miles: 1,693. Tomorrow will be my last day in North Dakota!
The road out of Gackle was pleasantly hilly with lots of ponds and lakes and pleasant scenery- and no traffic:
