It was cold this morning- 40 F when I was eating breakfast! My sister and Robin decided to ride with me part way and we decided to start the ride East of the Hudson River due to several sections of high speed roads with no shoulders. We started riding atound 09:45 and it was a beautiful morning- sunny and cool (in the high 40’s) with a light cross-breeze. The terrain was mostly gently rolling hills that were pleasant to ride. The roads were quite variable- in some places good shoulders but in most places very narrow shoulders that were rough with many potholes and cracks. The traffic was moderate to heavy all morning so we had to be careful. I guess this was pretty typical East Coast urban riding… Judith and Robin had just enough time to ride with me for the first 15 miles and then they had to return home- it was great riding with them! I continued on and rode into Connecticut (state #13!) a short time later. Since it was a short ride today I took a couple of side roads to do a little exploring and arrived at the hotel around 1:30 pm. Daily mileage: 38, Trip miles: 3,736
Robin, Judith and me (L to R) all bundled up at the start of the ride today:
The first roads had nice to narrow shoulders and moderate traffic:
