When we rode into the tourist town of Big Fork, MT last night, Johnny D rode right past art galleries and candle shops without stopping or even batting an eye. I really admire him for that.
We met a dutch couple in camp last night that we have seen off and on since we left Banff. It was fun talking about the trail to them and catching up over dinner and breakfast.
Since we are going a bit slower on some trails, we need to gain time when we can. Today we left the dirt and motored 47 very hot miles on a paved road to Swan Valley. This will let us go slow on some future trails that go over huge summits with spectacular scenery and keep us within the time we have available (about 45 days) for this trip. As we get behind again, we will look for ways to catch up… We saw lots of deer and a flock of wild turkeys today. We are still waiting to see our first bear.
Tonight we are staying in a very rustic little cabin in the quite small village of Swan Valley. The local people are very friendly and Johnny D and I showered, started laundry and then settled on the front porch with 5’sies. Life is indeed good.
Daily totals: 47 miles and just shy of 2,000′ climbing.
