After some new oatmeal for breakfast (thank you Pat!) we got ourselves together and hit the road a tad before 09:00- very early for us.
We started climbing immediately and climbed steadily for the-next 20 miles. It was warm and we had a light tailwind for the entire ascent! We started out at about 6,800′ and climbed almost 2,900′ straight until we hit the summit of Togwotee Pass at 9,658′. NOTE: the highest pass we summited prior to today was about 7,900′.
The descent to our little cabin was only about 8 miles but it was a beauty! We hit 37-38 mph, on mountain bikes, towing trailers and scanning the landscape for bears the entire time… Fun, but way too quick…
We checked into our cabin around 2:30, showered, put in a load of laundry and settled down with some lovely local beers and jalapeño poppers for 4’sies.

Congratulations on Togwotee Summit. I was wondering about the very obvious strata in the mountain photos – interested to hear at some point a geologist’s explanation. Also, from the same photo, it looks like an alarming number of trees are dead or dying – interested to hear at some point a forester’s explanation.
