Today, we left camp at 6:00 am and rode south 70 hilly miles to Cedar Falls, IA. And we rode into a very stiff headwind all day. Even so, the steeper hills blocked the winds while we were climbing and the wind helped us to keep cooler- when we finished at 2:30 it was 90 degrees and 70% humidity. Since arriving in camp I drank one beer and five bottles of water. I am still thirsty.
We started off the day with our usual banana and coffee, then stopped after 18 miles for a burrito and iced coffee (my coffee with homemade hazelnut whipped cream). I crave calories.
The burrito was a little heavy so we just had smoothies at each of the next 5 towns. Combinations of pineapple, mango, strawberry and banana- about half with protein powder and half without. Very tasty and refreshing!
For dinner we took a shuttle into town and had shwarma bowls followed by root beer floats and then a bourbon lemonade.
It is 8:00 now and I’m going to have another bottle of water and then go to bed. Peter is lying on the grass next to his tent- we are both a little knackered.
