We had an easy day today- about 40 miles with a light headwind. It was nice and cool at 6:30 when we started and wasn’t that hot when we arrived in camp, around 10:00. Our first pass through town (Dunkerton) was 16 miles away. I had a “nosh” bowl, which is layered potatoes, peppers & onions, egg, bacon, avocado and cheese. I also had a cold triple cafe mocha- but no whipped cream was available today 🥲. We left quite refreshed and stopped in Fairbank, which was only 10 miles away. We had cherry pie and coffee and left for the final 12 miles into Olewein. We rode at a pretty good pace today but still felt fresh when we arrived in camp- it was an easy day and we’ll be fresh for our harder day tomorrow.
In Olewein we showered and took a charter into the city center. There we had a big spaghetti lunch (with several pieces of garlic bread) at the American Legion post. After lunch we had root beer floats and then wandered around town. We’ll go back into town in 2 1/2 hours for a good carbohydrate-rich dinner. Oh yeah, I traded my last Greer Fire District patch for an Olewein Fire Dept. patch. I have 6 patches, one challenge coin, and 5 fire dept. coozies. I hope the guys at the station like it all…
