Today we had a lovely 66 mile ride to West Union. We had about a half mile of climbing but it was mostly nice rolling hills. We had our usual early breakfast of coffee, bananas, blueberry and carrot cake muffins. Then, 25 miles out, we found our favorite breakfast wrap/burrito vendor and had a big burrito with kale, carrots, onions, peppers and spicy sausage with homemade salsa. At our next pass through town we got mini key lime pies- they were about the size of a coffee cup saucer and were very, very good. At the midway town we had some refreshing lemonade from some kids and a vodka lemonade and a root beer float. Then I was too full of liquids to eat anything so we pedaled 13 miles and I got a huge broccoli and cheese baked potato and a regular slice of peach pie at the next town. Iowa is ideally suited for touring because there is a town every 10-15 miles! We hit the Iowa Craft Beer tent and the Big Grove brewery truck on the way into very hilly West Union. After unloading gear, setting up the tent, unpacking and cleaning and lubing my bike and showering, we had dinner at the Catholic Church for a change. I had brisket, green beans, baked potato (love those carbs!), corn on the cob and some sort of square cookie. We are starting early tomorrow so we can finish early and get me to Chicago at a reasonable time.
