I planned on getting an early start since I had 70-75 miles to go with forecast cross winds and headwinds. Well, I sat with two retired gentlemen at a table for the hotel breakfast and they were very interested in where I’d been and where I was going. Then I made the mistake of showing them my map… Holy smoke! They had stories about every little town on the map, and had lived in 3 or 4 of them! Anyway, my planned early start turned into an almost 09:00 departure. I stopped after 26 miles at a little cafe in Saco and had coffee and a HUGE apple/blueberry muffin. They also made me a ham & cheese sandwich to go. Total cost including 20% tip was $6.00! The next 46 miles were rolling hills and mainly a quartering headwind or crosswind- I think that will be the case for the next three days. Oh well, I’m not in a hurry and will just gear down and suck it up when necessary… Daily mileage: 72, trip miles: 1,150.
The terrain now is rolling hills and a little more arid with some big lakes:
Rode over the Milk River again and it is twice as wide now. Definitely a prime tubing river:
A couple of beautiful bay horses-our daughter Julie loves all farm animals so this is for her. Most livestock I pass stare at me like these horses- it is making me a little self-conscious.
History and pemican making lesson:
Comimg into Glasgow, MT. You don’t want to stray too far off the highway- there are monsters there:
Post ride refreshment. I really like trying the local craft beers and haven’t been disappointed yet:
Brother Dave,
We are really enjoying your daily blog. You are getting some great daily mileage but I’m glad to see that you’re taking the time to enjoy the people, the scenery and the wildlife.
Take all the time that you want on this epic adventure (your travel agent needs the business).
Cheers
