Since I had a short and easy 4 hour ride today, my WS host, Ken, suggested I sleep in and have a relaxed morning. I didn’t set the alarm and woke up about 07:45 after more than 9 hours sleep! As I was eating breakfast I noticed it was drizzling outside- I checked the radar and there was a whopping big front on the way moving to the Northeast. To wait it out would have required staying an extra day but, if I could ride east real hard to Bowling Green I might be able to get there before the lightening, high winds, hard rain and maybe hail… So, I quickly finished breakfast, threw all my stuff on the bike and took off in the cool drizzle. Ken described an alternate route to Bowling Green that would not have any traffic- which would be a real plus given the rain and poor visibility. His route was great, I had only 2 cars pass me in the 40 miles before I got on the Slippery Elm bike trail. It drizzled the entire way and the last 5 miles on the bike trail the wind started getting very gusty with some occassional big rain drops. I rode the 50 miles to Bowling Green in 2 hours 45 minutes and beat the front by less than 20 minutes! Whew, that short, easy 4 hour ride turned out to be a short, hard ❤ hour ride! Daily mileage: 50, trip miles: 2,961.
Not many photos today due to the rain- it’s a pity because I rode on some very nice roads through some pretty country.
My WS host Ken. Ken is an avid cyclist and rides one of his many bikes to work every day winter and summer! He is also a fantastic host and I had a really good and restful stay at his house:
This is the front I was racing to Bowling Green. I rode in the broad green area to the east which was drizzle and lighter rain:
Impressive times!! You must be in great cycling shape to make 50 miles that fast. (Beer for breakfast ?)
