We left camp at about 5:30 this morning anticipating a moderately long (60 – 65 miles) and hilly day. We needed to be done by 2:00 so we could shower, change, and get our bikes boxed up for transport back to Sioux City. Our bus to Sioux City would leave no later than 4:00. We took off at a pretty fast pace and just had energy bars and coffee in our first pass through town. We had smoothies at one town and then went through about an hour and a half of pretty hard rain so we didn’t stop anywhere for food. We did stop later for an Açaí bowl with fresh fruit, granola, honey, and peanut butter in one of the towns. That acai bowl was great! We went through a very hilly section with some long descents and long climbs. We got going over 40 mph on one descent- it was fun! We rolled into our camp at around 10:45 and found out only one other rider was in. We showered, changed, ate some snacks and got our bikes boxed up and headed into town for food. We had cherry pie on the way in to town and then ate pizza for lunch. After lunch we had a very refreshing beer and then headed back to camp for more snacks. We just stopped at Subway on the way back for another meal. We should be back in Sioux City by around 9:00. Peter and I will head to our hotel and Peter will drop me off at the airport around 8:00 tomorrow morning snd then start his drive back to Idaho. It was a good RAGBRAI- we had hills, hot weather, headwinds, and rain but we rode through it all and had some great fun!
Congratulations on another successful challenge accomplished!
I think I put on ten pounds just reading about all the food and drink.
I am sure you are already excited about next year’s ride.
We are looking forward to seeing you (and Janet) and your pictures and lesioning to your stories.
Rest up and get back out there saving lives.
Cheers,
Brother Ken
