Did I say I stayed with the mayor of Rexford (pop. 107)? Well I did and Richard Payton was a great host and full of good advice. My first game sighting was when I went outside with my coffee to assess the temp & weather and saw several does and fawns in the front yard! What a great start for the day! Anyway, I hit the road at 07:30 and it was a chilly 52 F. The ride had lots of hills and I finally topped out and then most of the remaining 30 miles were on a gently undulating road. Passed some more wild turkeys (a hen and 8 chicks) in a meadow- I know you can’t see them very well but I just can’t stop myself from photographing them… I rode by Dickey Lake and it was such a beautiful blue/green color! The last 15 miles coming in to Whitefish were on a very busy road, with no shoulder. Ugh. Tonight I am staying at a WS house with Gordon & Jessie. They are fantastic hosts- Jessie made pizza and we ate pizza al fresco and drank wine and talked for hours. I also did laundry! Tomorrow will be a rest day- Glacier Cycles is going to put two new tires on my bike, check out the front brake, put on a smaller sprocket up front and give it a once over (tune up). Daily mileage: 64, trip mileage: 720.
Deer in the front yard:
The wildflowers along the road were low diversity but high abundance- mostly these beautiful yellow and pink ones with scattered fire weed:
Definitely some great scenery. Well deserved day off. Enjoy!
