After my rest day I was eager to hit the road again. We had three tornado/severe storm warnings the past two afternoons so I wanted to arrive in Bismarck before the afternoon storms kicked up. I had a nice breakfast with Sasha & Masha and was on the road by 08:00. I rode into the Central Time zome a few miles east of Richardton and lost an hour. The landscape was pretty and green, with the usual rolling hills, and I had a light tailwind! Sasha sent me on my way with 4 large apple turnovers for snacks along the way so I just snacked by the side of the road. I caught up to a rider (Andy) who had been touring western North Dakota and was heading back to his home in Bismarck. We rode together for about 60 miles- with the light tailwind and temps in the low 80’s it was a very pleasant ride! Andy was extremely helpful getting me over the right bridge into Bismarck and he even guided me right to where I was staying! Daily mileage: 82, trip miles: 1,516.
Daily history lesson. In North Dakota they say “Gen. Custer was alive when he left here…”

Your prayers are working! I’ve been safe, have had wonderfully positive experienced, and have had more prayer time than I’ve had in years! Tomorrow will be a 100+ mile day so start praying for me early!

Hi Dave,
Great travelogue. In Rio, half of the participants of the 150 mile road race did not finish the race. Since, you have made it this far, I think in the next Olympics, you should enter. Do I remember correctly that you need to eat 5,000 or 7,000 calories a day? I eat as much as you do on a normal day. Safe travels. Lorraine

Another huge day, those turnovers obviously helped! You sure you don’t have one of those illegal racing motors on your bike?

Hi Dave,
Glad you made it safely to Bismarck and didn’t become a target for one of those lightening bolt throwing t-storms. Afterall, you are the highest spot around when you are sitting up on your bicycle. As you ride up and out of the Missouri River valley tomorrow, look due east down I-94 and realize that if it weren’t for the curvature of the earth, you would be able to see Fargo. Have a good ride to Gackle.
Crank on.
