We had a very average pancake breakfast at the hotel, then had late cafe mochas and picked up coffees for the bike mechanics at Fitzgeralds Bike Shop. The guys at Fitzgeralds took such good care of our bikes and let us store them at the store and pick them up 1 1/2 hours before the shop opened. We also left them beer money and they slipped two beers in Johnny’s food sack as we were leaving- great guys and great mechanics! Both Ernie and El Rojo are working better than ever.
We picked up extra fuel for the jetboil stove and hit the road around 10:00. About half of our ride out of Jackson was on a beautiful, smooth bike trail. The entire ride was along the Tetons, cris-crossing the Snake River- it was just beautiful!
We checked in to our campground and had 5’sies right away- so refreshing after a hot ride. Later, we brought the bartender the two very warm gift beers we had. I told him they were a gift for him and ordered beers for Johnny & me. When he brought my beers he said “no charge, I can sell those other beers!” What a deal!
Daily totals: 39 miles and 1,400′ climbing AND a new record average speed for the day of 11.8 mph!
